Airframe Certification

The Airframe certification authorizes you to work on every part of an aircraft except for the engines, propellers, and their related instruments. This includes inspecting, servicing, repairing, and troubleshooting the entire aircraft structure—the fuselage, wings, tail surfaces, and landing gear. You will also be responsible for the complex systems that make flight possible, such as the hydraulic and pneumatic systems, flight controls, cabin pressurization, and environmental controls. An Airframe mechanic ensures the structural integrity and safety of the entire aircraft, from the skin and rivets to the windows and doors.

Powerplant Certification

The Powerplant certification focuses on what is often called the heart of the aircraft: the engine and propulsion systems. This certification authorizes you to inspect, maintain, and repair all types of aircraft engines, including both reciprocating (piston) engines and modern gas turbine (jet) engines. Your expertise will cover everything from the engine's internal components to its fuel, lubrication, ignition, and exhaust systems. A mechanic with a Powerplant rating is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of the engines that provide the critical propulsive for flight, making this a role of immense trust and responsibility.

Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification

The ultimate goal for an aviation maintenance technician is to achieve both Airframe and Powerplant ratings, becoming an 'A&P Mechanic.' This dual certification makes you a versatile and highly sought-after professional in the industry. Earning your A&P license means you have achieved the highest level of versatile expertise as an aircraft mechanic, making you an invaluable asset to any aviation employer. At Miami Dade College, our programs specifically structured to guide you toward this comprehensive, dual certification.
