Course Description

Students will expand their abilities in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Japanese through practical everyday contexts. A variety of structured and open-ended activities will help to reinforce previously learned vocabulary and grammar while introducing new concepts and kanji that allow students to talk about locations, activities, schedules, and personal experiences. In this course, we will start using Japanese idiomatic expressions. Cultural insights are also incorporated to deepen understanding of Japanese customs and communication styles.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

Use familiar vocabulary and grammar to communicate in present and past tense about daily life, locations, and personal experiences.

Read and write simple text using Hiragana, Katakana and beginner-level Kanji.

Engage in short conversations related to common activities, and preferences.

Demonstrate increased understanding of Japanese cultural norms, especially in the context of language use and social interaction.
