Course Description

This course introduces practical, developmentally appropriate strategies to support self-regulation in children through music, movement, and art. Participants will learn creative activities that strengthen emotional awareness, attention, and coping skills, and develop self-regulation tools for use in educational, childcare, and therapeutic settings.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Explain how brain development, the nervous system, stress/trauma, sensory input, and neurodevelopmental differences influence self-regulation in children.

  • Use music, rhythm, and sound-based activities to support emotional regulation, attention, and smooth transitions.

  • Apply movement-based regulation strategies (e.g., breathing, stretching, dance, rhythmic movement) to build body awareness, reduce tension, and promote calm.

  • Implement visual art activities to support emotional expression, self-awareness, coping, and self-soothing skills.

  • Design developmentally appropriate self-regulation plans using creative strategies across home, classroom, and therapeutic settings.
