Course Description

This course equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare corporate and business entity tax returns. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles and concepts of federal income taxation for corporations and other business organizations. They will learn how to analyze and understand the corporate tax structure and apply relevant tax concepts and terminologies

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Analyze the federal tax structure for corporations and business entities and apply key tax concepts and terminology in the preparation of returns.

  • Prepare accurate tax filings for sole proprietors, including Schedule C, self-employment tax calculations, and estimated tax requirements.

  • Evaluate and apply the rules governing C corporations and S corporations, including formation, operations, distributions, basis adjustments, and shareholder taxation.

  • Interpret partnership and LLC tax provisions, including income/loss pass-through, distributions, and sale of partnership interests.

  • Differentiate between various business entity types (sole proprietorships, corporations, partnerships, LLCs) and determine the appropriate tax treatment for each.

Prerequisites

A background in bookkeeping and individual tax preparation is recommended.
