Course Description

The Property and Casualty (P&C) Insurance Industry is so much more than just the mascots you see in advertising. This three-week course will introduce students and working professionals to the many varied career opportunities within the P&C insurance world. It will examine specific job roles, responsibilities, salaries, and career paths in P&C insurance, from agents and brokers to underwriters and claims managers, among others.

This course is designed to be engaging, informative, and interactive. You’ll collaborate on assessing an actual insurance claim, learning the part that each role – risk manager, underwriter, actuary, and claims examiner – plays when a policyholder has a claim. You’ll also meet with, interview, and be mentored by insurance professionals as you learn more about writing cover letters, building resumes, and applying for jobs in the industry. You’ll also learn the ways your non-insurance jobs, such as auto repair or retail sales, can translate to the insurance industry.
